Spiritual assistance
The spiritual care of the person is part of the Maddalena Grassi Foundation’s experience.
This is the response to the religious need and sense intrinsic to man’s nature. For this reason, the Maddalena Grassi Foundation has a chaplain available, coming from the priestly fraternity of the missionaries of Saint Charles Borromeo, who visits the patients daily, administering the sacraments and making himself available for human company.
The chaplain visits both the patients hosted in the facilities and those who, taking advantage of Home Care or Home Palliative Care, or being caregivers of the patients, request his presence.
Before being a chaplain here, I thought that the content of Christian companionship was good, truth, beauty, justice… Beautiful words, which emerge powerfully in a shared life, for an ideal alive among us. Now I realize that there is only one content of our company: it is called mercy.
Everything else is the fruit of it. The truth emerges in the flesh where one is no longer afraid of reality. The truth emerges in an encounter without shields, without reservations, without “buts” with reality, where curiosity and desire guide, not fear. But how is this encounter with reality like this possible? Only in mercy. What is beauty too, if not collaborating with reality? This is the fruit of mercy.
